The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping on October 17.

Topical issues of further strengthening friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China were discussed.

At the meeting, the President of our country expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese leader for the invitation and warm welcome.

The head of Uzbekistan warmly congratulated the President of the PRC on the National Day of China and the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative.
- In a short period of history, the Belt and Road Initiative has become an important, inclusive and open platform for cooperation to achieve shared development and prosperity.

It is deeply symbolic that the President of the PRC announced for the first time the Green Silk Road initiative in Uzbekistan in 2016," the leader of our country said.

Uzbekistan's determination to deepen multifaceted relations with China was emphasized.

A five-year program for the development of comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era is being implemented.

The sides noted with great satisfaction that the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China in May this year are being consistently implemented, political dialogue is strengthened, and the parties are supporting each other on the main issues.

Trade, economic and investment cooperation is developing dynamically.

In recent years, the volume of Chinese investments increased fivefold, and the number of joint ventures increased threefold. The volume of mutual trade has increased by 36 percent since the beginning of this year.  This figure is expected to exceed 10 billion dollars by the end of the year.

It was mutually agreed that there is every reason to bring trade turnover to 20 billion dollars in the next five years.

With the participation of Chinese companies and financial institutions, several large-scale investment projects are being implemented in high technology, alternative energy, chemical, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, electrical engineering, infrastructure modernization and other areas.

Interest was expressed in expanding the portfolio of high-tech projects by jointly organizing the production of innovative products with high added value.
Effective cooperation with leading Chinese banks and the Silk Road Fund was highly appreciated.

Interregional contacts have been intensified. Delegations from Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous Region, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu and Jiangxi provinces have visited Uzbekistan since the beginning of the year.

Special attention was paid to effective exchange of experience and practical cooperation in studying and implementing China's experience in poverty reduction.

It was proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee to review the implementation of all agreements.

The leaders of the two countries highly appreciated the intense cooperation in the field of culture, education and tourism. China was thanked for supporting the initiative to declare 2023 as the "Year of Culture and Arts of the Peoples of Central Asia and China".

Uzbekistan was recently presented at the National Silk Museum in Hangzhou. An exposition of our historical heritage was organized at the exhibition of Archaeological Cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative at the Gugong Palace Museum in Beijing.

The Chinese Culture days in Uzbekistan are scheduled to be held at the end of October and Uzbekistan Culture days in China will be held next spring.

The growing interest in learning Chinese in Uzbekistan, especially among young people, was noted with satisfaction. The fruitful activities of the Confucius Institute in Tashkent and Samarkand make a great contribution to this. Plans to expand Chinese language teaching and exchange of young scholars were outlined.

The President of Uzbekistan suggested opening branches of leading Chinese universities - Tsinghua University and Peking University - in Tashkent.
Opinions were exchanged on topical issues of the regional agenda and international politics.

The unchanged position on supporting the "One China" policy and fighting the "Three Forces of Evil" was reaffirmed.

As a result of the meeting it was agreed to adopt an action plan for the implementation of the proposed initiatives.

Following the talks, the Leader of Uzbekistan invited the President of the People’s Republic of China to visit Uzbekistan.

The meeting was held in a traditionally trusting, open, and friendly atmosphere.
