A parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, took part in the plenary session of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held under the theme “Upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis.”

In her address, the Senate Chairperson emphasized that ongoing conflicts, crises, and humanitarian threats around the world are having a serious negative impact on the lives of millions of people. She noted that in such circumstances, parliaments must play a decisive role in promoting humanitarian principles and safeguarding human life.

Uzbekistan’s initiatives in the humanitarian sphere were presented at the Assembly. It was noted that as a result of more than 120 armed conflicts worldwide, nearly 310 million people are currently in need of assistance, which makes adherence to humanitarian norms even more pressing.

Uzbekistan actively contributes to international humanitarian efforts by providing practical support to people in conflict-affected regions through housing construction, medical services, and social assistance. These efforts clearly demonstrate the country’s commitment to the principles of humanity and international solidarity.

During the meeting, specific proposals were also put forward to deepen legislative and digital cooperation among parliaments, ensure the efficient and targeted use of humanitarian resources, expand financial participation in global initiatives, and train highly qualified professionals in the humanitarian field.

It was emphasized that humanitarianism is the legal guarantee of peace and the moral foundation of sustainable development, and that the role of parliaments in this process is steadily growing.
