Uzbekistan plans to engage 10 million youth in sports events

It is planned to increase the involvement of young people in mass sports events to 10 million by the end of 2024 and to raise the proportion of the population engaged in sports from 26% to 28%, as reported by Nurbek Salomov, head of the Ministry of Sports' press service.
It was noted that, to assess the physical fitness of the population the system for conducting sport tests across 11 age categories has been further improved, and a dedicated electronic platform has been launched for this purpose.
Additionally, to date, 4.2 million young people have registered online to take tests in 23 different standards, and 3.2 million have already taken the tests. The process of accepting sports tests from secondary school students and higher education institutions students has begun.
The requirements for sports groups in sports schools have also been revised, considering the nature of sports, the capacity of sports facilities, and sanitary requirements. These factors formed the basis for determining the minimum, optimal, and maximum number of athletes in the groups. As a result, the number of regular participants in local sports schools has increased from 370,000 at the beginning of this year to 570,000.
These young people will receive free training from qualified coaches for up to eight months in special groups at the youth sports school. They will progress to the next stage depending on their level of physical fitness and sports category. Young athletes with potential for professional sports will be directed to one of the four specialized sports schools or 15 training centers for Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Nurbek Salomov stated that all measures are being taken to increase the number of regular sports participants to 1 million by the end of the year.
