Shavkat Mirziyoyev participates in the CIS summit

As the part of working visit to Bishkek, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Heads of State Council.

The summit, chaired by President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, was also attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

In accordance with the agenda, the sides exchanged views on the state and prospects of multifaceted relations within the CIS, also discussed topical issues of practical interaction.

In his speech, the Head of state put forward a number of initiatives to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation within the Commonwealth.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of using a unique platform like the CIS for joint assessment of existing opportunities and adoption of mutually coordinated measures. In this context, it was proposed to organize a conference of leading think tanks and experts of the CIS countries to develop a new long-term agenda of multilateral cooperation.

The Leader of our country emphasized the need for ensuring stable economic growth in the Commonwealth countries.
  
Attention was drawn to the importance of forming a full-fledged free trade zone within the CIS territory by lifting exemptions and restrictions. In this regard, it was proposed to revise the relevant contract provisions.

The President of Uzbekistan called for the effective use of the existing mechanisms and proposed new tools to stimulate the growth of trade turnover between the countries. 

The Head of our state spoke in favor of developing a set of additional measures to stimulate mutual investments and promote projects, as well as holding a forum on industrial cooperation and innovative development of the CIS countries.

Special attention was paid to the issues of partnership in the energy and food spheres, introduction of advanced technologies in the relevant sectors of the economy and strengthening cooperation.

It was proposed to prepare an updated Program of cooperation in the field of food security and Agreement on the main directions of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex.

The Leader of Uzbekistan initiated the preparation of a "road map" to enhance interregional cooperation, outlined specific measures to strengthen transport interconnectivity, increase passenger and freight transportation.

The importance of consolidating efforts to counter consequences of global climate change was emphasized. President expressed readiness to organize a special plenary session dedicated to environmental challenges and threats in the CIS during the International Climate Forum planned for next year in Samarkand under the auspices of the UN.

In the humanitarian sphere, it was proposed to organize the CIS Culture, Art and Cinema Week in 2024 in Samarkand, which was declared as the cultural capital of the Commonwealth.

Next year a number of youth events will also take place including a soccer tournament in Tashkent, which was declared as the CIS youth capital.

In his speech, the Leader of Uzbekistan also put forward essential initiatives in education and the development of tourism exchange.

In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan congratulated the President of the Russian Federation on accepting the chairmanship of the Organization in 2024.

The summit resulted in the adoption of several agreements and decisions on priority areas of interaction within the CIS.
