Senate hosts meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Sabine Machl.
During the talks, the sides highlighted the successful holding of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and emphasized the importance of the initiatives put forward by the President of Uzbekistan for the development of the international community. They also exchanged views on setting plans and ensuring the effective implementation of these initiatives.
The meeting discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations, including its specialized agencies. Particular attention was given to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting gender equality.
It was noted that the reforms aimed at building the New Uzbekistan are fully aligned with the SDGs.
In this regard, the parties also explored ways to further expand cooperation, including involving UN institutions in parliamentary hearings on the implementation of national sustainable development targets. Special attention was paid to ensuring the effective implementation of goals and tasks at the regional level.
The meeting also discussed plans to actively involve young people in achieving the SDGs, including through the organization of the 3rd Global Forum on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation for Achieving the SDGs. The forum will be held as part of the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, which is scheduled to take place in Samarkand next year.
In addition, plans were reviewed to hold the next meeting of the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue in November 2025 within the framework of the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region. This format has proven to be an effective platform for sharing experiences in promoting women’s rights and strengthening their role in sustainable development.
