Priority Directions for the Development of Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Discussed

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon continued their negotiations in an expanded format, joined by the official delegations of both countries.

The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, with special emphasis on political, trade-economic, transport-communication, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

“Through active communication grounded in mutual trust and support, our countries have forged friendly relations to an unprecedented high level in recent years”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. 

At the same time, enormous untapped potential and great opportunities for further expanding large-scale cooperation were noted. 
“To implement the historic Treaty on Allied Relations signed today, it is essential to increase the effectiveness of contacts at all levels – parliaments, governments, foreign affairs agencies, ministries, and regions”, the President of Uzbekistan said.

The importance of developing cross-border trade mechanisms and infrastructure to bring trade turnover to $2 billion was emphasized.

The Presidents welcomed the solid agreements on jointly implementing crucial projects in energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agro-industrial, and other sectors. These initiatives are aimed to stimulate the development of extensive industrial cooperation.

Discussions centered around maintaining a constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue on water usage issues.

The Uzbek Leader emphasized the importance of effectively harnessing the vast potential of interregional cooperation and fully implementing the agreements reached during the visit.

Transport and transit were highlighted as strategic priorities. In this regard, the presidents supported the expansion of mutually beneficial partnerships, the creation of favorable conditions for the arrangement of air and rail transport, and the increase of the transit cargo volume.

The parties agreed to support more actively cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

The significance of maintaining close contacts to address contemporary challenges and threats, as well as to the promotion of socio-economic projects in Afghanistan, was underscored.

The readiness for ongoing mutual support within regional and international frameworks was emphasized.

The meeting included presentations of reports by deputy prime ministers and ministers of transport, energy, and agriculture.

Following the talks, the heads of state were instructed to prepare a joint roadmap and establish mechanisms for effectively implementing the agreements reached.
