President of Uzbekistan underlines the importance of prompt accession to the WTO

On 5 June, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
During the meeting, practical measures for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were discussed.
It was stressed with satisfaction that within a short timeframe, two meetings of the Working Group were held, active negotiations were being conducted with member countries, discussions on the conditions of support for agriculture were initiated, and efforts persisted in aligning national legislation with the norms and regulations of the Organization.
Special attention was given to cooperation in developing the green economy, e-commerce, and expanding digital services exports.
Special emphasis was placed on enhancing the expertise of Uzbek professionals in international trade regulation. In this regard, with the backing of the WTO, it was suggested to establish a Trade Policy Competence Center in Uzbekistan.
Uzbek Leader expressed gratitude to the Director-General of the WTO for participating in the roundtable discussion and meeting with students from the top universities in Uzbekistan. Additionally, he extended congratulations for being bestowed with the honorary title of doctor from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. At the end of the meeting, Ngọzi Okonjo-Iweala expressed her support for Uzbekistan's efforts to join the organization.
