President of Uzbekistan pardons 615 convicted individuals ahead of Constitution Day
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a Decree “On pardoning a group of individuals who are serving sentences, have sincerely repented of their actions, and demonstrated a firm commitment to rehabilitation,” on the eve of the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of Uzbekistan’s Constitution. The decision serves as a practical reflection of the state’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian policy.
According to the Decree, and based on Clause 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution of theRepublic of Uzbekistan, 615 individuals who are serving sentences, have sincerely repented for their act, and have firmly taken the path of reform,were pardoned.
Of the pardoned persons, 220 were fully released from the primary sentences, 123 people were granted early conditional release, and for 97 persons the punishment of imprisonment was replaced with a lighter penalty. In addition, the terms of imprisonment assigned to 175 persons were reduced.
Among those granted clemency are 9 foreign citizens, 29 women, 23 men over the age of 60, 264 youngpeople (including 2 minors), and 9 persons who had participated in the activities of banned organizations.
To implement the Decree, relevant ministries and government agencies were instructed to assistthe pardoned individuals in reuniting with their families and loved ones, adapting to social life, engaging in useful work, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and securing a rightful place in society.
