An agreement to cooperate in waste-to-energy projects was reached during the visit of a Namangan region delegation to the People’s Republic of China in July this year.
Yesterday, representatives from the large Chinese company “Everbright Environment Limited” visited the Namangan region to discuss the project. During a meeting with regional governor (khokim) Shavkat Abdurazzakov, they discussed generating electricity by processing waste on a 10-hectare site in the Chust district. This project will be implemented within the "Zarafshan" small industrial zone, with $150 million in foreign direct investment allocated for its implementation. Its operation will create the opportunity to efficiently utilize waste and provide 400 people with new jobs.
— "This production project, which is a first for the region, will be implemented in stages. The initial phase is planned to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, while the next phase is set for the third quarter of 2026," says Okibjon Inomov, the deputy governor of the region. "By the end of this year, $25 million will be allocated for the project’s development."
Following a productive dialogue between both parties, the Chinese delegation is now closely examining the project site.
