On March 25, a ceremony dedicated to the construction of new power plants was held in Namangan region.

Our country places significant emphasis on expanding renewable energy sources. Over the past few years, nine solar and wind power plants, totaling 1.6 gigawatts in capacity, have been connected to the grid in Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Samarkand, and Surkhandarya. Additionally, six hydroelectric power stations with a combined capacity of 183 megawatts have been launched in Andijan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and the Tashkent region.

Today, Namangan has a total generation capacity of 913 megawatts. Over the past three years, electricity consumption has surged by 24%, with expectations pointing to a sustained upward trend.

In this regard, three power facilities, totaling $1.1 billion and boasting a capacity of 1,228 megawatts, have been designed for the region. These include a cascade of hydroelectric power plants along with two solar power plants.

In a representative case, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC is set to construct a cascade of six hydropower plants with a capacity of 228 megawatts, along the Norin River in the Uychi district with a $434 million investment.  It is expected to generate 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, conserve 310 million cubic meters of gas, and provide electricity to 430,000 households.

Another crucial aspect is that this hydroelectric power plant will be entirely constructed using equipment and technologies manufactured domestically. It will mark the debut of the first entirely domestic hydroelectric power plant.

These stations will employ 133 individuals, with an additional 4,000 people expected to be employed during the construction phase.

Hyper Partners, a German company, plans to construct a 500-megawatt solar power plant in Pop district. This project, with a cost of $350 million, is planned to produce 1.095 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Another solar power plant, in collaboration with Tepelen Group Holding Limited of the United Arab Emirates, is set to be established in Pop. Current venture will also require an investment of $350 million and will boast a capacity of 500 megawatts.

Both power plants are expected to be connected to the local grid by the end of this year. They are expected to create 120 permanent job opportunities.

These projects will have a total generating capacity of 2,141 megawatts for Namangan region. With an annual production of 7.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, the region's demand of 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours will be fully met. The surplus, representing 30 percent of the generated electricity, will be allocated to Andijan and Fergana regions.

During the ceremony, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ceremoniously initiated the construction of these major energy projects by pressing a symbolic button.

“Establishing the conditions for the prosperous livelihoods of our people stands as an essential foundation of the New Uzbekistan policy. To this end, initiating projects promptly, requiring uninterrupted power supply for sustainable operation holds paramount importance. In this regard, today's ceremony marks a historic occasion. I extend my congratulations to all of you on these new projects and initiatives," stated Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It's worth noting that in 2025, plans are underway to commission electricity storage systems with a capacity of 200 megawatts in Pop and Uychi districts. These projects will contribute to balancing the unified energy system during periods of high consumption and ensure a stable electricity supply to consumers.

This year alone, a total of 2.6 gigawatts of power will be added to the local grid through the construction of 14 solar and wind stations across our republic.
