Uzbekistan climbs 65 spots in global mobile internet speed rankings over the last four years

Global internet speed analytics firm Ookla has recognized Uzbekistanʼs significant progress in mobile internet speed in recent years, UzA reports.
As part of the MWC Barcelona – 2025 World Mobile Congress, Uzbekistanʼs Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, met with Stephen Bye, President and CEO of Ookla, Chip Strange, Chief Strategy Officer, and Victor Zeng, Sales Director for the North and Central Asia regions.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further developing internet infrastructure and enhancing quality monitoring systems nationwide.
Ookla representatives noted that Uzbekistan ranked 133rd in Speedtest Global Index in 2020. As of January 2025, the country has advanced to 68th place, marking a 65-position improvement.
The meeting also addressed plans to accelerate 5G technology deployment, test innovative technological solutions for mobile operators, and support development initiatives based on international best practices, UzA reports.
