Unique heart surgery performed for the first time in Uzbekistan
At the Children’s Multidisciplinary Clinic of Tashkent State Medical University, pediatric cardiac surgeon Bobur Turayev removed the damaged tricuspid valve of a six-year-old patient and replaced it with a new valve made from the child’s own right atrial appendage.
This complex surgical procedure was performed in Uzbekistan for the first time. Such surgeries are currently carried out only at the world’s most advanced medical centers.
Turayev earned his master’s degree at University College London in 2018–2019 as a recipient of the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation scholarship. He has trained in hospitals in about 10 developed countries, authored nearly 20 scientific articles indexed in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, and has successfully performed heart surgery on more than 1,000 children.
