President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed renaming the New Andijan to “Babur City” in honor of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur. The initiative aims to immortalize the memory of the renowned historical figure. The announcement was made by the Presidentʼs press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.

According to the press secretary, the proposal was made during a public celebration at the “New Uzbekistan” park in New Andijan. President Mirziyoyev emphasized Baburʼs unique scholarly and creative legacy in his address, noting that the king and poet had introduced the Uzbek people and nation to the world through his contributions.

“I am confident this initiative will deeply resonate with our people,” the President said. “Hazrat Babur is an exceptional figure in world history. It would be fitting not just to name streets, squares, gardens, and parks after him, but to build an entire city in his honor.”

Mirziyoyev described Babur Mirzo as a worthy successor of the Timurid Renaissance and a great patron of science, culture, art, literature, and talent. He noted that Baburʼs efforts to establish peace and justice began early in life and continued throughout his career, calling his bravery and dedication a true model of patriotism.

“Without a doubt,” the President said, “this remarkable ancestor of ours — a man of encyclopedic knowledge and profound intellect — fully deserves to have such a beautiful city named in his honor, even if only for his work Baburnama alone.”

The proposal garnered strong and enthusiastic support from the public.
