Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasizes the importance of a swift resolution to the Middle East conflict

On November 11, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit.
The event, chaired by Saudi Arabia, brought together heads of state and government leaders from major countries in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the African continent.
In line with the agenda, the issues of uniting the efforts of the international community aimed at de-escalating the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as early political settlement of the current crisis were discussed.
The Head of our state expressed special gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Muhammed bin Salman Al Saud for organizing the summit dedicated to the Palestinian problem, the most acute and complex issue on the global agenda.
It was noted with regret that since the meeting in Riyadh in 2023, this war has expanded its scope to encompass Lebanese territory.
Uzbek President fully supported all practical initiatives aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli issue through peace and diplomacy.
The hope was expressed that effective mechanisms and concrete solutions would be developed and implemented at the global and regional levels during this summit.
It was emphasized that the immediate cessation of hostilities, the provision of safe humanitarian corridors, and the commencement of peace negotiations should be the focus of constant attention of the United Nations and the Security Council.
It was noted that the Palestinian people, with their ancient and rich history, have the rightful claim to establish an independent and free State, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the 1967 borders.
In this regard, support was expressed for the activities of the Global Alliance for a Two-State Solution, established at the initiative of Saudi Arabia.
In addition, to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the territories of Palestine and Lebanon, it was proposed to expand the scope of assistance from leading States and international organizations, including by supporting the activities of the Special Agency and other United Nations institutions.
The Head of our state expressed readiness to provide war-affected Palestinian children and women with free treatment in Uzbekistan's clinics.
The intention was also expressed to discuss practical assistance to the people of Palestine at the summit ‘Arab States of the Persian Gulf - Central Asia’ next year in Samarkand.
The Head of our state paid special attention to the issues of ensuring the inviolability and careful preservation of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and other unique historical and cultural monuments of Jerusalem.
In conclusion, he expressed hope that the current meeting would be a significant step towards resolving the situation in the Middle East.
A joint resolution was adopted following the discussions, affirming the commitment to seek a swift political-diplomatic solution to the conflict.
