On September 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Namangan region to review regional development projects and observe living conditions.

The pace of construction is visible from the city’s gateway—the airport—where new terminals are being built with an investment of USD 140 million.

The project was presented during the President’s visit to the region last year, and construction is now advancing rapidly.

The current airport is too small to handle the growing flow of tourists. The new three-story terminal will increase passenger capacity by 2.5 times. It will feature border control and visa sections, a business lounge, retail and dining outlets, a medical room, and duty-free shops.

A large cargo terminal is also under construction. It will be capable of handling 50 tons of cargo per day and provide export opportunities to 90 countries. Most importantly, this will create a unified cargo system in the valley, strengthening the region’s business, export, and transit potential.

This year alone, Namangan region plans to attract 1.5 million foreign and over 2 million domestic tourists, and increase service exports to USD 210 million. Exports from Andijan and Fergana regions are also on the rise.

Airport service equipment will be upgraded to enable the reception and servicing of aircraft of various sizes. Catering facilities, a fueling complex, and other utility buildings are also being built. The new terminals are scheduled to be commissioned next year.

The President instructed that the infrastructure around the airport should be developed accordingly. As in leading international practice, the surroundings should include hotels, shopping, and entertainment complexes, and modern services. Tasks were also set to establish parking facilities and service centers to expand convenience for visitors.
