Blogger Otabek Sattori released from prison
Otabek Sattori – a blogger from Surkhandarya, was released from prison by the Court decision. This was reported by the press service of the Kashkadarya Regional Court.
It is reported that on 5 February 2024, the Karshi District Criminal Court considered and satisfied the petition of Otabek Sattoriy (born in 1980, Surkhandarya region, blogger) previously found guilty of committing crimes under Articles 139 (libel) part 3 paragraphs “A” and “G” and Article 165 (extortion) part 3 paragraphs “A” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the decision of the Criminal Collegium of the Supreme Court from 2 February 2024, the decision of the Muzrabot District Criminal Court from 10 May 2021, the Decision of the Appellate Instance of the Criminal Court of the Samarkand Regional Court from 15 July 2021, and the decision of the Cassation Instance of the Supreme Criminal Court from 5 April 2022 were changed and the term of imprisonment imposed on Otabek Sattori was reduced to 6 years.
Thus, by Court decision Otabek Sattori’s unexecuted part of the sentence of 2 years 11 months and 25 days in the form of imprisonment was replaced by correctional labor with payment of 20% of income to the state which was determined under Article 74 (Replacement of punishment by a more lenient one), part 3, paragraph “V” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
