On March 31, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a trilateral meeting in Khujand with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov.

At the meetingʻs outset, the leaders exchanged greetings for Ramadan and the spring renewal festival of Navruz, wishing peace, prosperity, and progress to their brotherly nations.

President Mirziyoyev congratulated his Tajik and Kyrgyz counterparts on successfully resolving all border-related issues and signing the agreement.

It was emphasized that this document, along with the agreement on the junction point of the three countriesʼ state borders, would contribute to stability, sustainable development, and the enhancement of the entire regionʼs international standing. The newly inaugurated “Friendship Stele” was noted as a new symbol of the strengthening good-neighborly relations, trust, and strategic partnership among the fraternal nations.

The President of Uzbekistan highlighted key priority areas for practical cooperation.

First and foremost, he stressed the importance of continuing regular and trusting high-level contacts.

This week, Samarkand will host the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit and a Climate Forum dedicated to common environmental challenges in the region.

In May, a summit with the Gulf Arab states is scheduled, followed by the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian state leaders in September.

In this regard, the leaders emphasized the importance of regular consultations between foreign ministries to ensure thorough preparation and a unified approach for these upcoming events.

Special attention was given to fostering cooperation in border regions.

In recent years, Uzbekistanʼs trade turnover with both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has increased more than tenfold, with nearly half of this trade involving border regions.

Therefore, the need to comprehensively modernize and expand customs checkpoints at the borders and establish convenient, modern trade and logistics infrastructure was highlighted.

A proposal was made to explore the creation of a trilateral trade platform and a permanent exhibition-fair for industrial and agricultural products.

Another key area is industrial cooperation projects.

Currently, Uzbek enterprises and private companies are actively investing in establishing modern production capacities in neighboring countries.

To support these effots, Uzbekistanʼs leader expressed readiness to gradually increase the capital of joint investment funds.

The countries agreed to enhance transport connectivity by expanding flight routes and frequencies and introducing new intercity bus services between border towns.

Large-scale regional projects in green energy and transport, as well as water and environmental programs, were also in focus. Uzbek Leader emphasized that governments should work more actively in the economic sphere to achieve tangible, real results that will improve the well-being of their peoples.

The ongoing cultural and humanitarian events held in Khujand these days were noted as contributing to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding among the peoples, particularly among the youth.

The Uzbek leader proposed organizing annual joint concerts and friendship festivals in border regions during Navruz celebrations, expressing readiness to host such an event next year in Fergana.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the historic Agreement on the Tripoint Junction of the State Borders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan was signed, along with the adoption of a Joint Declaration.
