One of the streets in Paris named after Samarkand
During his official visit to France, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
At the beginning of the conversation, the head of our state sincerely congratulated the mayor on the successful hosting of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also expressed gratitude for naming one of the streets in Paris after Samarkand.
Mayor Hidalgo, in turn, thanked the Uzbek leader for the support provided in ensuring public safety during the Olympic events.
The meeting highlighted the historic significance of the Presidentʼs visit, which strengthened the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Discussions focused on boosting practical cooperation between Tashkent and Paris, underpinned by a newly signed agreement.
Key topics included urban planning, green space development, public transport enhancements, digital transformation, and the modernization of city infrastructure for long-term sustainability.
Cultural and tourism exchanges were also key topics, with plans for joint exhibitions, cultural festivals, and gastronomic events.
The meeting concluded with an official ceremony dedicated to naming the Paris street after Samarkand.
President Mirziyoyev and Mayor Hidalgo signed a joint declaration recognizing the Uzbek leader as an honorary guest of Paris. This commemorative plaque will be displayed in the cityʼs municipal museum.
