Tashkent's public transport system, including the metro, to be adapted for people with disabilities.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on priority tasks in the field of social protection, with emphasis on the expansion of the range of services for vulnerable segments of society. The press secretary of President Sherzod Asadov reported this.
As stated, a two-year programme for the adaptation of public transport in Tashkent, including the metro, to the needs of persons with disabilities will be implemented. In addition, the projects for the construction of buildings and facilities are subject to a mandatory examination to create a comfortable environment for persons with disabilities and limited physical abilities.
This year the goal is to train at least 500 designers and architects to create a barrier-free environment for the disabled with the involvement of foreign specialists.
A two-year program will be implemented to make public transportation, including the metro, stops, and stations in the capital, accessible to people with disabilities. Hokims and governors were instructed to implement this approach in the regions as well.
It was noted that the websites of all government agencies should be accessible to people with disabilities.
