Shavkat Mirziyoev reviews proposals for developing the livestock sector
On June 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on proposals to develop livestock sectors.
The presentation detailed the strategy for poultry farming development and outlined the plans for the current year.
Specifically, this year's projections include increasing poultry meat production from 700,000 tons to 800,000 tons and raising egg production from 8.5 billion to 10 billion units.
Genetics is a critical challenge in the sector. Uzbekistan lacks a first-order meat poultry reproducer and relies on imports from Hungary for second-order poultry.
80% of the global poultry genetics market belongs to the US company. In this regard, in cooperation with them, it is planned to introduce advanced technologies in the poultry farming sector and establish breeding farms.
Further measures to support sector development were identified. Poultry enterprises will be exempt from land tax for five years. Additionally, they are allowed to export poultry meat and will benefit from a three-year extension on the repayment period for $35 million in low-cost resources provided to entrepreneurs.
The Head of state also instructed to expand feed reserves and centrally supply them to poultry farms.
There are 39 farms engaged in Karakul sheep farming in Uzbekistan. In the Bukhara region, over 2 million sheep graze on more than 2 million hectares of pastureland. This, of course, is insufficient.
To enhance Karakul sheep breeding, a cooperative approach in household farms was proposed. The population of Karakul, Karaulbazar, Gijduvan, Peshkun, Dzhandar, and Alat districts will be provided with sheep, pastures, and wells also, the areas for fodder plants will be expanded.
By implementing these initiatives, the target is to raise the Karakul sheep count from 6 million to 7 million.
During the visit to the Namangan region, the President emphasized the development of goat breeding. Accordingly, purebred goats were imported from Turkey and Russia, and a breeding goat cluster was established.
Leveraging Mongolia's experience, Uzbekistan intends to import 5,000 purebred goats to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Namangan, and Tashkent regions. The goal of this initiative is to expand the goat population to over 100,000 within the next two years.
Moreover, instructions were given to improve breeding practices and prioritize the production and export of high-value products like cashmere and tweed made from goat wool.
