The head of our state was briefed on ongoing efforts to expand the drinking water supply and sewage systems.

Access to clean water and sanitation remains a national priority, essential to improving public health and quality of life. Under ongoing social and regional development programs, numerous infrastructure projects are being implemented. To date, 81 percent of residential areas are connected to centralized drinking water systems, while 20% are connected to a sewage system.

In 2025, plans include laying 1,619 kilometers of drinking water pipelines and 521 kilometers of sewage networks. Additionally, 162 infrastructure facilities will be constructed or renovated. These efforts will provide centralized drinking water to 715,000 people for the first time and extend sewage services to another 400,000 residents.

Officials presented updates on the implementation of these projects.

Currently, 21 projects are underway with the support of international financial institutions. This year alone, it is planned to implement works worth 800 million USD and commission 138 water infrastructure facilities.

A successful pre-project financing experience has been established in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank and the German Development Bank. By selecting contractors and designers in advance, project implementation has accelerated. It was noted that applying this approach to all future projects would be beneficial.

To support the digital transformation of the water supply system, Uzbekistan has secured 125 million USD in funding from the Asian Development Bank. Over the next five years, 4,800 smart meters and nearly 3,000 telemetry systems will be installed at major water facilities and along main pipelines.

Given the sectorʼs growing international cooperation and expansion of public-private partnerships, the need to train specialists capable of meeting these evolving demands was emphasized.
