President reviews new projects in Andijan
On July 28, the President of Uzbekistan was presented with updates on the results of reforms and new plans for the development of Andijan region.
Under the Presidential Decree dated November 18, 2024, measures were outlined to support the socio-economic development of Andijan and improve its investment and business environment. This year’s targets include attracting USD 3.1 billion in investments, generating USD 1.5 billion in exports, creating 305,000 jobs, and lifting more than 32,000 families out of poverty.
Since the beginning of the year, the region has launched new production facilities worth USD 1 billion and opened 344 trade and service complexes. Projects worth an additional USD 2.5 billion have been initiated. Over the past six months, the region has attracted USD 850 million in investments and achieved USD 465 million in exports.
The President’s visit to the region in April, along with the tasks set during that visit, gave fresh momentum to the region’s development. A “Reform Headquarters” was recently established with the participation of scientific experts and leading entrepreneurs to develop new proposals focused on economic and social sectors.
During the presentation, officials outlined the rationale and expected benefits of these initiatives.
For example, a USD 40 million investment is planned to establish an innovative clinic using robotic technologies imported from Germany, Turkey, and Japan. In addition, with the support of diplomatic missions abroad, negotiations are underway to attract EUR 20 million from Italy for the creation of an agricultural cluster and EUR 25 million from Germany for the construction of a modern agrologistics complex. In the city of Khanabad, as well as in the Khojaabad and Buloqboshi districts, more than 30 initiatives have been developed to promote tourism zones.
In total, a portfolio of additional projects worth USD 1.1 billion has been compiled. Their implementation is expected to create 22,000 new jobs and boost annual exports by USD 200 million.
The President stressed the importance of adopting a tailored approach for each city and district in the region and emphasized the need to allocate new projects to areas with lower levels of investment. He instructed officials to organize training and employment for unemployed and vulnerable families, and to take measures to transform neighborhoods (mahallas) into crime-free zones.
