Uzbekistan appoints ambassador to Sri Lanka

Alisher Tokhtaev, Uzbekistan’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sri Lanka, with residence in Islamabad, presented copies of his credentials to Rohana Ambagolla, Chief of State Protocol of Sri Lanka. The Dunyo Information Agency reported this.
Ambagolla described the appointment as a significant political step toward strengthening friendly relations between the two countries and giving fresh impetus to bilateral cooperation.
“The Sri Lankan side reaffirmed its openness to a new format of partnership with Uzbekistan and highly appreciated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives aimed at strengthening ties with the Global South, ensuring food security, and enhancing regional connectivity,” the report stated.
The meeting included detailed discussions on advancing economic diplomacy and exploring prospects for trade and economic relations. Noting that the current volume of bilateral trade is insufficient, both parties agreed to undertake concrete steps aimed at increasing this figure to 50 million USD in the foreseeable future.
Discussions also focused on jointly developing transport and logistics solutions to boost export and import flows, as well as creating and launching online platforms and programs through the effective use of information technologies.
