Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets EU Commissioner for International Partnerships

On March 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by Josef Sikela, the European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships, who is on a working visit to Uzbekistan.
The meeting focused on discussing key issues related to further developing multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
At the start of the talks, Commissioner Sikela conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa to President Mirziyoyev.
The growing dynamics of bilateral cooperation in recent years were highlighted, particularly in political, trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Both sides emphasized the significant opportunities and potential for further deepening this partnership.
It was noted that the early signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU would further contribute to expanding cooperation.
The talks also emphasized advancing joint projects and programs in key sectors, including transport and logistics, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and water management.
Special attention was given to establishing mutually beneficial cooperation in the processing of critical mineral resources.
During the meeting, preparations for the first “Central Asia – EU” Summit and Climate Forum, set to take place in April in Samarkand, were discussed.
Additionally, the parties exchanged views on regional cooperation in Central Asia.
