Senate meeting with UN Human Rights Regional representative
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with Matilda Bogner, Regional Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Central Asia.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the initiatives and proposals on human rights put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of cooperation in the field of human rights, including support for ongoing reforms in the country, fulfillment of international obligations, and institutional cooperation between the Senate and UN bodies.
The parties discussed the draft National Human Rights Strategy until 2030, which is being developed with the participation of the wider public and international experts, as well as new forms of parliamentary oversight aimed at implementing international commitments.
Matilda Bogner praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to eradicate forced labor, reform the judicial and legal system, and strengthen transparency and dialogue between state institutions and civil society.
Special emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation further, including training judges and law enforcement officers, ensuring the Senate’s participation in international reporting, and actively involving civil society in discussions on human rights protection.
