President of Uzbekistan launches major energy projects
On November 27, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the launching ceremony of projects implemented with the leading Saudi company ACWA Power. They include the connection of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts in the Syrdarya region to the power supply network and the construction of a piloted production of green hydrogen facility in Tashkent region.
It should be noted that the combined cycle power plant project in Syrgarya region, worth $1.1 billion, will cover the electricity needs of more than 3 million households and hundreds of industrial enterprises.
In addition, for the first time in the region, a unique enterprise for the production of green hydrogen is being established. As part of this pilot project in our country, at the first stage, 3 thousand tons of hydrogen will be produced with subsequent processing into mineral fertilizers, and a 52-megawatt wind power plant also will be built.
Overall, large energy projects worth $7.5 billion are being successfully implemented in Uzbekistan with the participation of ACWA Power.
The launch of these projects will generate 25 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, saving 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas and reducing harmful emissions by up to 3 million tons.
