Activities of political parties registered abroad prohibited in Uzbekistan

An amendment was added to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Political Parties" that bans the establishment and operation of foreign political parties and their branches in Uzbekistan.
Article 6 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Political Parties” now includes a provision stating, “The establishment and activities of political parties and their branches from foreign countries are not allowed in the territory of Uzbekistan.”
The amendment was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 2. The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on June 11, 2024, and approved by the Senate on June 22.
Earlier, it was reported that the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan had changed its official emblem ahead of the parliamentary elections.
