Ruslan Nurudinov sets a world record, Sharofiddin Amriddinov also wins a gold medal
The Uzbekistan national weightlifting team has concluded its participation in the World Weightlifting Championships held in Bahrain. Olympic champion Ruslan Nurudinov capped off the teamʼs performance with an outstanding result.
Competing in the -109 kg weight category, Nurudinov secured fifth place in the snatch with a lift of 182 kg. However, he demonstrated exceptional skill in the clean and jerk, lifting 242 kg to break his own world record set three years ago in Tashkent. With a total lift of 424 kg, no other athlete could surpass his result, earning Nurudinov his third world championship title in the combined total.
Notably, the gold medal in the snatch event also went to another Uzbek athlete, Sharofiddin Amriddinov. Sharofiddin secured sixth place in the clean and jerk with a lift of 212 kg and finished fifth overall with a total of 396 kg. Thus, all the gold medals in the competition were claimed by representatives of the Uzbekistan team.
In total, the Uzbekistan national team finished the championship with 3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. This victory demonstrates that preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games in Uzbek weightlifting have already begun.
