President: Urban planning standards must be developed on the principles of “City for Pedestrians."

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed serious concerns over escalating traffic problems during the meeting on priority tasks in housing and communal services, construction, transportation, and ecology held on January 29.
Several streets in Tashkent witness an average traffic congestion index ranging between 7-9 points on weekdays, occasionally reaching 10 points; some areas have to handle a double workload.
As a result, it takes twice as much time to get to a destination during rush hour.
Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov, together with representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Tashkent city administration, were assigned to develop systematically formulated proposals addressing the pressing issue of traffic jams and to present them to the President.
“All leaders in urban planning and the road traffic sphere are required to adopt “City for Pedestrians” motto as their guiding principle.
At the same time, public transport should be given all-round priority, and cars should become a luxury,” said the President.
